What is Orton Gillingham?
In the 1930s neuropsychiatrist Samuel Orton and educator/psychologist Anna Gillingham identified specific reading challenges as dyslexia. Together they developed a multi-sensory, structured, sequential teaching method based on American English. OG instruction has shown to be effective for all readers, but especially beneficial for individuals with dyslexia. Today we call it structured literacy .
When does tutoring take place?
During the school year, lessons are after school. Homeschooled students and adults often meet in the mornings and early afternoon. Summer sessions may be morning or afternoon. Online tutoring is also available.

Summer is a wonderful time for tutoring! Students often learn more and faster when not tired from school. Tutoring can prevent summer reading backslide. Instead, they return to school farther ahead then when they left.

Tutoring takes place in Laguna Niguel, online, or both.
How long does it take?
The Barton program has 10 levels. With 2x/week sessions, most students take 2-3 years to complete the entire program. Tutoring three times a week, especially in summer, can speed up this process.
How do I pay?
Payments can be made at each session or billed monthly. Credit cards, checks and cash are accepted.
